I have been asking a few people who run second hand "kitsch" shops around Auckland about Lynch, and have been told the following;
1- He was english
2- "Tina" was his wife
3- He travelled around the world and the women he painted were his lovers (I realise that one seems a bit cliche)
4 - He is dead
5- Apparentley there is a book about him in the Auckland public library - I haven't had time to check this out yet
Please note that I don't know if any of this is true, it's just what I have been told

I also found a reference to a "John Henry Lynch - Painter" on the net but it was a dead end.
I think a good place to look for info would be the archives of Playboy - don't know how you would get access to it though.

I searched the Auckland Library Site, but didn't find any book that sounded like it would be about JH Lynch. Do you have any more info about that book?

No, I had a search on the site as well. It was the guy who owns "Tango" in little high street who told me that. He might have been referring to "Just Above the Mantelpiece", I will ask next time I am down there.
