I just bought the "Woodland Goddess" in East London in South Africa for R150 (very cheap) because it took me back to my childhood. In the 70s we had a "Tina" print at home and I adored it because I thought it was a painting of my very glamorous Auntie Daphne, who had a divine black beehive. Then an artist friend of mine saw it and said enviously: "Oh, a Lynch." But when I quizzed him about it, he knew nothing about the artist. My interest was piqued! I'm amazed, reading your web site, that so little is known of a man who produced such iconic pictures of the popular culture of the 60s and 70s. How fascinating that he burned most of his paintings at the end of his life. So I'm keen to do a story about it for the Daily Dispatch newspaper in East London (a la "Cry Freedom" and Steve Biko fame). I'd really wlecome any tales from your members about Lynch prints and ideas on what they're worth but, of course, I'll have a look at ebay myself. Massimo respecto to Mario for spotting a gap in our knowledge and setting up the web site. Also, I'd like to ask if I could have permission to use some of the photos of Lynch you got (I presume from his nephew) for the story -- and some of the prints from the gallery. And I would be most grateful if you could mail me to tell me your thought on the Lynch mystery, if you reckon his "nephew" is a dinkum and tell me a bit more about yourself and how you came to interested in Lynch.

Hi
I'm working - very early stages - on a book about Lynch & Tretchikoff & co. I'm fascinated by the fact these artists were huge in the 1960s but never gained critical acclaim and are now criticised as kitsch whereas someone like Warhol is treated like a star. I'm particularly intertested in the later life of Lynch - did he really burn some of his paintings and die embittered. Any leads or suggestions much appeciated.
